The Dev Deepavali is the one & only festival we celebrated in the sacred city of Varanasi, It's falls on the full moon night of the hindu month of Kartika (November - December) and takes place fifteen days after Deepawali, On this day every steps of all the ghats on the riverfront of the Ganga River, from Ravidas ghat at the southern end to Rajghat, are lit with more than a million of earthen lamps (diya) in the honour of river Ganga and its presiding goddess. According to sanatan (hindu) tradtional history, the gods are believed to descend to Earth to bathe in the Ganga river on this day and people welcome them all with diyas, lights, rangolis, and more. On the night of Dev Deepawali, Varanasi becomes heaven on Earth.The festival is also observed as Tripura Purnima Snaan.The tradition of lighting the lamps on the Dev Deepawali festival day was first started at the Dashashwamedh Ghat by Pandit Kishori Raman Dubey (Babu Maharaj) in 1991.
